Custom formulation for Animals

The animal nutrition (Feed) sector now requires technical solutions that combine zootechnical performance, animal welfare, animal resilience, and industrial profitability. For feed and additive manufacturers, the challenge is twofold: ensuring active ingredient efficacy despite demanding processing conditions and meeting growing expectations for natural health and precision nutrition.

Innov’ia, a trusted partner, leverages its unique expertise to support players in pet food, livestock, and aquaculture. Thanks to our expertise in microencapsulation and drying technologies, we transform your most complex additives into stable, palatable, and high-performance solutions.

Technological challenges in Animal Nutrition (Feed)

Thermostability and process resistance (Pelleting)

Nutritional additives such as enzymes and vitamins are often degraded by high temperatures during feed pelleting. Innov’ia develops protective coating solutions that ensure the survival of your actives throughout processing, guaranteeing full efficacy once ingested by the animal.

Optimization of physical properties and palatability

Industrial powder handling requires excellent flowability and drastic dust reduction to ensure operator safety and smooth packaging operations. At the same time, we work on masking bitter tastes or strong odors to improve formulation palatability and ensure optimal feed intake by animals.

Production Strategic co-development

Innov’ia does more than manufacture; we innovate alongside you. With an R&I center composed of 45 experts, we overcome technological challenges from the laboratory stage to design tailor-made ingredients adapted to your final matrices. Our approach secures the transition from pilot stage to mass production.

Technology combination: a complete toolbox

To address the specific challenges of the animal market, we deploy a full range of advanced processes:

  • Microencapsulation and Coating: Essential for active protection and controlled release (e.g., rumen-bypass solutions).
  • Spray Drying: To transform your liquid extracts into homogeneous and stable powders.
  • Prilling (Spray Cooling): Ideal for encapsulating vitamins or amino acids in protective lipid matrices.
  • Fluidized Bed Granulation and Agglomeration: For dust-free powders that are easy to dose and perfectly dispersible.

Solutions tailored to each active and additive

We work with a wide variety of molecules to deliver tangible added value to your products:

  • Enzymes and micro-organisms: Thermal protection and viability assurance.
  • Vitamins, minerals, and amino acids: Stabilization and targeted release.
  • Plant extracts and essential oils: Specific solutions for gut health and reduced antibiotic reliance.
  • Flavors and sweeteners: Organoleptic masking and improved palatability.
  • Microalgae and antioxidants: Oxidation protection for extended shelf life.

Quality, safety, and excellence standards

standards In a globalized market, compliance is a cornerstone of trust. Innov’ia ensures full traceability and adherence to the strictest standards:

  • FAMI-QS Certification: The benchmark standard for feed ingredient safety.
  • Food safety: FSSC 22000 certification and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Certifications on request: Halal, Kosher, and Organic certifications available to meet your specific requirements.
  • Environmental commitment: €7 million invested in responsible and sustainable industrial production.

FAQ: Animal Nutrition Formulations

Each collaboration begins with a feasibility phase within our R&I center, where our 45 experts analyze your formulation constraints. We then carry out proof-of-concept (POC) studies and prototypes on semi-industrial pilots before validating scale-up at one of our 4 production sites. This structured approach ensures the final product meets performance and stability expectations.

Yes, thanks to our subsidiary Capsulae, we can produce samples and prototypes under 5 kg. This step is essential to adjust process parameters (temperature, coating agent, particle size) without committing to mass production costs. Once validated, we can scale up flexibly to several tons per year.

New in 2026: Our R&I center strengthens its expertise with two new high-tech pilot workshops. These complementary facilities include a Fluidized Air Bed unit specifically designed to process intermediate batches (50 to 100 kg). These tools secure the production of your most valuable ingredients with industrial precision while facilitating the transition to large-scale volumes and ensuring optimal quality.

Encapsulation enables targeted release (e.g., rumen-bypass for ruminants) and protects nutrients from gastric degradation or oxidation. Using these processes improves absorption and reduces nutrient losses in animal feed formulations, leading to improved growth and stronger health for livestock and companion animals.

Microencapsulation and drying act as protective shields, significantly extending the shelf life of sensitive actives such as probiotics, vitamins, or essential oils. For premix manufacturers, spray drying ensures ingredient homogeneity and performance throughout the supply chain, even under demanding storage conditions.
